Most of the data I work with regularly is fairly small in size, it would be great to add connectivity to access db's via the odbc connection.

I believe some people have done this through ODBC-JDBC bridge. I don't have any experience there, but the community may be able to help.

This is good news. Some of the changes to 3.2.2 were to make code more flexible depending on usage with the hope that it would behave better with the various differences in DBs. Unfortunately, I only have a small set of databases to actually run tests against. Thanks to all for verifying this.
