Manage your component catalog

With bulk management in Compass, any user on your Compass site can choose one or more components at the same time to archive or restore.

However, while anyone can archive or restore, only product admins can approve pending components or permanently delete them from the archive.

With these controls, product admin can improve the overall quality of their software component catalog. A component’s status falls into one of these three categories:

  • Published: The component has been approved by a product admin and is part of the published component catalog.
  • Pending: The component needs to be reviewed by your product admin before it appears in the published catalog. However, anyone on your Compass plan can edit the component’s Overview page. Pending components are typically imported from your connected source code management (SCM) apps, such as Bitbucket, GitHub, and GitLab.
  • Archived: The component was archived, and only a product admin can permanently delete it. If this was an accident, any user can restore the component.

Admin only: Approve a pending component

To approve the pending component(s) from the Component search page:

  1. Select Pending.
  2. Select checkboxes for the component(s) you want to approve. You can only select up to 100 components at a time.
  3. Select Publish. The components will be searchable in your team’s published catalog.

To approve from a component’s Overview page, select Publish component in the information banner. Once published, the component will be searchable in your team’s published catalog.

Admin only: Permanently delete an archived component

Components that are permanently deleted lose connections to first- and third-party apps, dependencies, scorecards, and metrics. However, we don’t delete component data from systems outside of Compass.

To delete an archived component from the Component search page:

  1. Select Archived.
  2. Select checkboxes for the component(s) you want to permanently delete. You can only select up to 100 components at a time.
  3. Select Delete permanently.
  4. Confirm and proceed by typing DELETE in the field.
  5. Select Delete permanently.

Product admins can delete both pending and archived components. To delete a component from the component’s Overview page:

  1. Select Delete permanently in the information banner.
  2. Confirm and proceed by typing DELETE in the field.
  3. Select Delete permanently.

Only Compass product admins can permanently delete and approve pending components. All users with access to your Compass site can archive and restore components, as well as edit pending and archived components.
