Access production logs

Once you’ve shared your Forge app with other users, they may experience issues using it on their Atlassian site. If this happens, you have two options to access the logs to help fix the issue. You can ask your user to download the logs and send them to you. Or, ask them to give you continuous access to the logs, which means you can view the logs in the developer console.

To request access to logs from a user, use the email associated with them by following the steps on how to contact your customer. You must collect and use data in accordance with the privacy rights that you've obtained from your user. For more information, see the Atlassian Developer Terms and Forge Terms.

This is only available for paid Atlassian apps.

Enable continuous log access

You could either send this page of instructions to your user, or tell your user to:

  1. Go to Admin Hub and select the Atlassian site where the app is installed.

  2. Select Connected apps in the left menu.

  3. On the Connected apps page, select ••• next to your app.

  4. From the dropdown, select View app details.

Your user sees a screen like this, showing the details of your app and the controls for enabling or disabling access to their site's logs.

The admin hub app details page, showing details, and the section to share app logs

  1. Scroll to Share your app logs, at the bottom of the page, and read through the description of what enabling access to logs allows. If you're happy to continue, select Enable log access.

  2. A modal appears, giving more details about what sharing logs lets the vendor do. If you're happy to continue, select Enable. You can disable this access at any time, however giving vendors access lets them fix issues faster.

Once your user has granted access to your app’s logs for their site, you can monitor your app in the developer console.

Download and send logs

Tell your user to:

  1. Go to Admin Hub and select the Atlassian site where the app is installed.

  2. Select Connected apps in the left menu.

  3. On the Connected apps page, select ••• next to the app you want to download logs for.

The Connected apps page displaying apps

A modal appears like this one, giving a preview of the logs you're about to download.

The logs preview modal, displaying logs and date range picker

  1. Check the preview to make sure the logs don't contain personal or confidential data, or user-generated content. If necessary, use the date picker to choose a date range and select Apply. Note, the dates in the date picker are in the user’s local time, and the dates in the logs are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

  2. Once you're happy with the logs, select Download.

  3. Send the downloaded log file to the vendor.
