Decide your pricing and licensing model

Choose how you'll charge for your app, configure editions and trials, and set up the payment and legal infrastructure needed to receive revenue through the Marketplace.

OUTCOME: By the end of this phase, you should have:

  • A payment model chosen (Paid via Atlassian or Free) with a defined pricing strategy
  • App editions and trial experience configured
  • Tax, legal, and payout setup completed so you can receive disbursements
  • End User Terms and (if applicable) a Data Processing Agreement published

1. Choose payment model and pricing strategy

What to do
  • Choose payment model: Paid via Atlassian or Free (consider trials)
  • Define pricing tiers aligned to Atlassian licensing
  • Research competitive pricing in your category
  • Consider per-user vs. flat pricing models
Why this matters

Your pricing model directly affects adoption velocity and revenue. Aligning to Atlassian's licensing tiers reduces friction for buyers, and competitive research helps you set a price that's both attractive and sustainable.

2. Configure licensing and editions

What to do
  • Set up app editions and feature differentiation
  • Configure trial period and trial-to-paid conversion
  • Review multiple instances pricing considerations
  • Review licensing FAQ
Why this matters

Editions let you serve different customer segments without building separate apps. A well-designed trial experience is often the single biggest lever for conversion.

What to do
  • Complete tax, legal, and payout setup to receive disbursements
  • Create End User Terms (customer agreement or Terms of Service)
  • Create Data Processing Agreement (DPA) if you are a Data Processor under GDPR or process personal data
  • Consider using Atlassian's customizable end-user agreement framework
Why this matters

You can't receive revenue without completing payout setup, and missing legal documents (EULA, DPA) will block your listing during review. Using Atlassian's agreement framework can save significant legal effort.
