Prepare branding, support, privacy, and security basics

Get your app's brand identity, support infrastructure, and privacy & security documentation ready before you create your Marketplace listing.

OUTCOME: By the end of this phase, you should have:

  • App name, logo, screenshots, and optional demo video finalized
  • Support infrastructure set up with defined channels and SLAs
  • Privacy policy and data handling documentation published
  • Security review preparation completed (scanning, questionnaires, incident plan)

1. Prepare branding and naming assets

What to do
  • Review Marketplace branding and naming guidelines
  • Finalize your app name (ensure it passes naming requirements)
  • Create app logo and icon assets
  • Prepare screenshots and visual assets
  • Optionally create a demo video
Why this matters

Your name and visuals are the first thing customers see in search results. Apps that look polished and clearly named get more clicks, more trials, and pass review faster.

Resources

2. Set up support infrastructure

What to do
  • Set up a JSM project or equivalent for app support
  • Define support channels and SLAs (response time targets)
  • Prepare support documentation and knowledge base
  • Publish support contact details (use a generic email, not a specific person's)
  • Train your support team on app functionality
Why this matters

Marketplace requires a working support channel before listing. A responsive, well-documented support experience builds customer confidence and is one of the strongest drivers of positive reviews after launch.

Resources

3. Prepare privacy and security documentation

What to do
  • Publish a privacy policy with data handling details
  • Optionally publish a security statement
  • Prepare content for the security & privacy tab in your listing
  • Document data access, storage, and retention policies
Why this matters

Enterprise customers evaluate trust signals before installing. A complete security and privacy tab, along with a published privacy policy, are key factors in making a customer's shortlist.

Resources

4. Complete security review preparation

What to do
  • Review security requirements and the approval workflow
  • Prepare for security scanning
  • Document a security incident management plan
  • Ensure your app passes security requirements
  • Review the security questionnaire for Marketplace apps
Why this matters

Security review is a gate to listing. Preparing your incident plan and passing scanning before submission avoids back-and-forth with the review team that delays your launch.
